What is SFIA?

SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age) is a globally recognised framework that describes the skills and competencies needed for digital, IT and technology‑related roles. Employers use SFIA to understand a person’s abilities and to structure job roles and career development. Having SFIA‑aligned badges helps you show your skills in a language employers already trust.

Why is SFIA important?

SFIA gives organisations and individuals a common language for digital skills. It can help organisations with identifying skills gaps, defining roles, workforce planning and recruitment decisions. It can help individuals to understand the skills they have, the skills they need to progress and help plan their professional development.

What are SFIA digital badges?

SFIA digital badges are verified, shareable credentials that confirm you hold knowledge in specific SFIA skills. They allow you to display your capabilities online, for example on LinkedIn, your CV and email signature. The badge is hosted on Credly, a digital badge platform for verifying, managing and sharing professional skills and certifications. If you have already claimed your APMG Certification digital badge, you will already have an account with Credly and will be able to claim your SFIA digital badges through the same account.

Can I share these badges on LinkedIn or other social platforms?

Yes! You can share your badges on LinkedIn, your CV, email signatures and multiple social media platforms - anywhere that supports digital credentials.

Who is eligible for these SFIA badges?

Anyone who has passed the relevant APMG exam and received an email invitation is eligible to buy the SFIA badge bundle.

Are the digital badges secure?

Yes, the digital badges are secure. Digital badges provide a secure, verifiable and tamper-proof method of documenting and verifying individuals' skills and qualifications. Utilizing advanced encryption, blockchain technology, and authentication mechanisms, digital credentials offer enhanced security measures that make manipulation or falsification significantly more challenging than traditional credentials. How were these badges mapped to APMG certifications?

The APMG certifications were mapped to the SFIA Framework by a SFIA Approved Consultant. SFIA Foundation have been notified that these courses have been mapped and have see a copy of the mapping assessment reports.

Can I buy individual badges instead of the bundle?

It is not currently possible to purchase individual badges.

How will I receive my badges after purchase?

After purchasing your digital badge bundle, your purchase will be verified and the badges issued to you directly. Once the badges have been issued, you will receive notification from Credly that you have badges to claim. Please note that badges will only be issued Monday to Friday and during UK business hours.

Do the badges expire or need renewal?

No, the badges do not expire and you do need to do anything to renew or maintain them.

How do these badges help with my career development?

SFIA is widely used by employers to assess skills. Displaying these badges shows hiring managers and clients that you have verified knowledge in key digital capability areas, helping you stand out in applications and career conversations.

How do employers use or recognise SFIA badges?

Employers use SFIA to define job roles, evaluate skills and support training plans. Having SFIA‑aligned badges makes your capabilities easy for them to understand and verify.

Will these badges help me progress to higher SFIA skill levels?

SFIA describes digital and technology skills at seven levels of responsibility, ranging from level 1 (performing routine tasks under supervision) to level 7 (strategic leadership with accountability for overall success). The badges in this bundle demonstrate you have knowledge in these skills through passing an examination. If you want to progress to a higher level of knowledge, you could progress to the next level within the certification scheme (if available). However, please note that the higher levels have not yet been formally mapped against SFIA.

Will more SFIA badges be added in the future?

The badge bundle contains all the SFIA skills badges relevant to the certification exam you have passed. No additional badges will be added for this certification.
